Experiments
First Piece
For my first piece I was really inspired by the photographer Richard Avedon, more specifically his piece, “BLACK ALBUM”. I wanted to emulate the look of Avedon’s photograph. The main aspects I encapsulated in my photo are the colder tones of the original piece and the empty feeling that the image brings me. When I was editing this photo I visualized a closed off being who disconnects themselves from society. Not letting anyone get close or showing true emotions around others. The blue tone adds to barren tone of the image. For this work, I used natural lighting on a gloomy day and I used a lace cloth around my subject to wrap it around them. I had so many ideas for my first piece but none of them never quite stuck. Some of them were either too tedious to commit to or didn’t feel like a strong enough idea to follow through on. This one felt the like a strong and felt kinda natural to do.
2nd piece
For this piece my theme was “ethereal.” I wanted the photo to feel like everything about the world is a little too perfect and something isn’t quite right. I used the lighting and color scheme to portray a cheery and carefree feeling while the faces and poses of the characters in the photo seem uneasy and confused. My inspiration for this piece was the movie “Midsommar.” The movie has an unsettling feeling to it despite its vibrant and captivating colors. I wanted to portray some of that in my piece. The elements and principles of design I chose to focus on were color, unity and balance. I would say this piece was a success because everything came out how I wanted and personally, I think captured the mood and theme I wanted to achieve.
3rd piece
For this piece I wanted to go for a digital glitch theme. I chose this theme because while I was doing research to find out what to do I found pieces online that captivated my brain so I wanted to create something similar. My inspiration for this piece was and artist named Tsuguya Inoue and his work for a Kiyoshiro Imawano x Ryuichi Sakamoto ad. The elements and principles of design I chose to focus on were color, emphasis and pattern. I believe this piece was unsuccessful because there is much morena that could’ve been done to it to emphasize the model and it all just feels kinda empty and unfinished.
